Garden City

Dorothy Ruth (Castoe) Griggs, aged 86, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, at the Ranch House of Garden City, Kansas. Born on March 21, 1938, in Leadville, Colorado, she was the cherished daughter of Robert and Alice (Von Bernuth) Castoe.

Dorothy dedicated many years of her life to serving as the teller supervisor at Western State Bank. Her passion for people shone through in her work and in all her interactions. A loving grandmother, she adored spending time with her grandchildren and found joy in simple pleasures such as painting, cooking, and sewing. Her heart was especially warmed by the company of her beloved Yorkie puppies and her treasured dolls.

On December 21, 1952, Dorothy wed Earl Eugene Griggs Sr. in Deerfield, Kansas, beginning a partnership that would shape her life for decades. Their love created a legacy that is carried on by her family.

She is survived by her son, Earl Eugene "Gene" Griggs Jr.; her daughter, Dixie Ann Misemer and her husband Ted; her brother, John Castoe and his wife Jean; and her six beloved grandchildren: Tony Butler and his wife Jennifer, Lyndsay Plankenhorn and her husband Josh, Jerod Westfall, Brooke Cornell and her husband Tyson, Shaina Wiens and her husband Eric, and Brad Griggs. Dorothy also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Earl Sr., two sisters Roberta and Pat, two brothers Bill and Vernon, her daughter Patti Jo, and her son Robert. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.

In accordance with Dorothy's wishes, there will be a private interment. Arrangements are entrusted to Robson Funeral Home of Garden City.

As we remember Dorothy, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unyielding dedication to her family and community. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
