Douglas was born on February 6, 1943, in Higginville, Missouri, to Douglas James Lightner, Sr. and Mary (Huckabee) Lightner.

Douglas was known for his engaging personality and was considered a fun and loving man by those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. In his youth, he worked as a manager of a movie theater in Lubbock, Texas. His career took a significant turn when he became a FedEx driver, a role he embraced for many years while serving the Lubbock area. His hobbies were varied and reflected his lively spirit. He had a penchant for attending car shows and enjoyed watching movies, often sharing these interests with family and friends. Spending time at estate sales around the Lubbock area brought him great joy, as did driving his beloved Corvettes with loved ones, creating cherished memories along the way.

Douglas later moved to Ulysses, Kansas to with his daughter, Shawna and her family.

Douglas is survived by two daughters, Michelle Jackson and husband Douglas of Dallas, Texas, and Shawna Staats, along with her companion, Bryan Smith, of Ulysses, Kansas. He also leaves behind three brothers: John Lightner of Kansas City, Kansas, Robert (Bob) Lightner of Florida, and Dave Lightner of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his loving legacy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Sr. and Mary Lightner.

Douglas James Lightner will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
