Glenda "Joyce" Gaskill Smith, aged 82, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta, Kansas. Born on October 19, 1942, in Hugoton, she was the beloved daughter of Glen C. and Avanell (Anderson) Gaskill.
Joyce found her soulmate in Henry Dale Smith, whom she married on July 22, 1961, in a heartfelt ceremony at the United Methodist Church in Moscow, Kansas. Together, they created a beautiful family, welcoming two devoted children, Darwin and Tia, who were the center of her world.
A long-time member of the Moscow Christian Fellowship Church, Joyce's faith guided her in all aspects of life. She embraced her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother with boundless love and happiness. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family, nurturing them not only through meals but also by supporting their dreams and accomplishments. Joyce had a passion for quilting, cooking, and crafts, cherishing every memory made on the farm alongside her husband and children.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Henry; her son, Darwin; her daughter, Tia Bell and her husband, Craig; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob Bell and Caroline Smith ; her sister, Brenda Schechter and her husband, Hal; and numerous relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents and her infant brother, Roger Darwin Gaskill.
In honor of her love for community and faith, a memorial has been established for the Moscow Christian Fellowship Church and contributions may be sent in care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton. A funeral service will follow on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Moscow Christian Fellowship Church, Moscow; presided over by Pastor Patty Lahey. Joyce will be laid to rest at Moscow Cemetery, surrounded by the beauty of the land she cherished.
