DATELINE–Rolla
Helen Letha (Harper) Higgins, 74, died on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart, Kansas.
The daughter of Thomas & Linnie (Hawk) Harper, she was born November 11, 1940, Stevens County, Kansas.
She and Jack Almon Higgins were married on June 22, 1958 at Lonestar Friends Church, Hugoton, Kansas.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Stevens and Morton County. She graduated from Hugoton High School and began her career Rolla USD 217 in the fall of 1978. She retired after 28 years working the kitchen, driving bus and head of maintenance. She stayed home for a year and went back to work for the school until present. She enjoyed her job and the kids.
She loved her family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and reading books. She also enjoyed going to sporting events in the surrounding area.
Survivors include husband, Jack Higgins, Rolla, KS; two sons, Jackie Higgins & wife Michelle, Casper, WY, Greg Alan Higgins & wife Trena, Texahoma, Ok; a daughter, Cindy Howe, Rolla, KS; two brothers, Charles Harper & wife Pat, Hugoton, KS, Alfred Harper & wife Dorothy, Hugoton, KS, sister in law, Darlene Harper, Hugoton, KS; five grandchildren, Derek Higgins, Katy Howe, Reagan Higgins, Alexis Higgins and Rylee Higgins as well as many and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Harper.
Memorials have been established for Rolla Public Library or Rolla Hope. Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s -Robson Funeral Home PO Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 3 PM at Rolla High School Gymnasium, Rolla, Kansas and burial at Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, Kansas.
Friends may call Tuesday 10AM to 8PM at the funeral home.
