John Michael Pate

John Michael Pate passed away on January 5, 2025, in Midland, Texas. He was born on September 30, 1947, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Merle Eldon and Leila RossLyne (Taylor) Pate.

John's educational journey began in Colorado where he graduated from high school and pursued higher education until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served from 1967 to 1970, earning notable commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

In his personal life, John found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, sharing many memorable outings with friends and family. His love for football; he was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys, often cheering them on.

John is survived by his beloved sons, Jeremy Pate, and his wife Yolileisy, of Midland, Texas, Will Pate of Hugoton, Kansas. He was also the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Jeremyah Pate, and Aubree Pate; a brother, James Pate, and his wife Joni, of Jasper, Texas, along with other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Merle Lee Pate, and his sister, Leisa Bates.

A viewing will be held in his honor at Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton, Kansas, on January 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. 

Funeral service will be held on January 24, 2025, at the First Christian Church of Hugoton, 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Hugoton Cemetery to follow with Military Honors.
