Joyce Ann Baker

Joyce A. Baker, 75, of Garden City, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, at The Ranch House.  

Joyce was born January 10, 1948, to the late Raymond and Eva Ehmke in Dighton, Kansas.  She graduated from Dighton High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Garden City Community College.  Joyce was very crafty and enjoyed wood working, creating pottery and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family.  She looked forward to hosting friends and family for the Fourth of July and Halloween. Every Halloween, Joyce would dress up as “Flirty Gertie the Witch” and terrorize neighbors, friends, and family.  She hosted the best living room campouts, where she would help grandkids build forts and tents to sleep in.  Joyce spent hours in her garden, tending to her house plants and was especially proud of her koi pond.  She served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years and helped St. Francis Ministries with transporting children.  Joyce worked for several years at the Hilton, coordinating banquets and catering. 

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Jim Baker; her parents, two sisters, Christina Ehmke; Theresa Ehmke; and brother, Phil Ehmke.  She is survived by her children, Kim Hamilton; Michael Baker and fiancé Gina Gerber; four grandchildren, Devin Hamilton and Nicole Creacy, Allyson Hamilton and Devin Claussen; Kyla Davis; Dacoda Davis; three great grandchildren, Ysera Hamilton; Alexstrasza Hamilton; Zeke Hamilton and one great grandchild on the way.  

A visitation for Joyce Baker will be held from 10 am to 5 pm Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main Street, in Garden City, KS. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday; and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.   The book will be available to sign 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Fleming, Garden City, KS.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Joyce Baker Memorial Fund or to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo in care of the Robson Funeral Home. Those who wish to offer condolences and support are invited to attend.
