DATELINE- Hugoton, KS
Our beloved mother and Grandmother Mable Loraine Zimmerman, “Lorie,” died on July 11, 2016 surrounded by her family following several days filled with an abundance of love, family, and friends. Lorie passed at Childer’s Hospice Center in Amarillo, Texas shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. She was born on March 29, 1938 in Elkhart, Kansas to Wallace “Sport” and Evalena Grogan. She was a longtime resident of Hugoton, Kansas but lived in Borger, Texas the last four years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Vernon Grogan; son Tony Zimmerman; and great-grand daughter McKenzie Loraine.
Surviving are Lorie’s daughters and their families, Shelly & James French, Shawnna & Troy Shuck, Jamie Leigh & Cody Spurgeon; daughter-in-law Priscilla Zimmerman; brothers Lee & Carole Grogan and Dean Grogan; sister-in-law Darlene Grogan. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Lorie lived in Pratt, Kansas from 1971 to 1977 before moving to Hugoton, Kansas in 1977. She worked for 20 plus years as a Head Optician for Dr. Dora Davis and was loved by her patients who still request her by name for help adjusting their glasses even though she has been retired for 4 years. When she retired she moved to Borger, Texas and lived with her youngest daughter, Jamie Leigh and family. Lorie was a voracious reader, enjoyed having coffee and tea with friends and family, and was an avid shopper. She had an extensive wardrobe and even if she was simply sitting at home relaxing, she was elegant. But most importantly, Lorie loved her ever-growing family and that is the real legacy she leaves behind. She was beloved to each of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
