Ruby (Unruh) Ryan

Ruby (Unruh) Ryan passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at The Ranch House in Garden City, Kansas.

She was born on January 8, 1938 in Finney County, Kansas, to Alfred Lee and Esther Marie (Inman) Unruh.Ruby and Philip "Phil" Ryan were married on November 5, 1966, in Raton, New Mexico. To this union was son Dennis Ryan. Phil and Dennis both preceded her in death.

She grew up on a sugar beet farm, sharing her childhood with her siblings in Finney County. This early upbringing instilled in her a strong work ethic and a compassionate spirit that she maintained throughout her life. Ruby graduated from Holcomb High School before continuing her education at Garden City Community College and Emporia State University earning her bachelor’s degree in Education. Ruby taught school in Plains, KS for a few years then later worked as a legal secretary in Colorado Springs. Ruby embraced the joys of life, particularly cherishing the moments spent with her family and friends. She had a profound love for travel, often embarking on adventures with her beloved husband, Phil. Their journey together was shared between traveling and their love for running. 

Ruby is survived by her two grandchildren, Michael Ryan of Hot Springs, AR., and Katrice Ryan of Denver, CO.; two brothers, Allen Unruh and his wife Cherl, and Gene Unruh and his wife Liz, and two sister -in-law's Bobbie Unruh and Dana Unruh; great grandchildren, Sophia Ryan and Hunter Chapman. Along with many cherished nieces and nephews who will carry forward her spirit of kindness.Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dave Calvin Unruh and Edward Lee Unruh.

A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church of Garden City, in the care of Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main Street, Garden City, Kansas. Per Ruby's wishes cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date. 

Services have been entrusted to Robson Funeral Home of Garden City.
