Russell James Purdy, born on September 12, 1979, in Lakin, Kansas, passed peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Pierceville, Kansas. He was the loving son of Jed Russell and Shawn RaNae (Carroll) Purdy. He was cherished as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched the lives of many in his community.
He and Mattie RaShae (Loving) Purdy were married on April 23, 2016, in Garden City, Kansas.
Russell's professional journey took him to UPS in Garden City, Kansas, where he was known for his dedicated work ethic and commitment to service. His educational accomplishments included graduating from Kansas State University, where he earned double bachelor’s degrees in political science and marketing and mass communications. His thirst for knowledge and self-improvement was evident throughout his life.
Beyond his career, Russell was celebrated for his artistic talents, particularly in his ability to design things in his head and they come out picture perfect. He took to heart the role of a jack of all trades, exemplifying creativity in every endeavor he pursued. An avid enthusiast of culinary arts, he earned the affectionate nickname "the Jerky Man," delighting family and friends with his homemade beef jerky, cheese, and wine.
Russell knew the importance of community and was devoted to helping those around him. His compassionate nature shone brightly, especially in the way he shared the love of Jesus with his family, most notably in the home school education he provided for his children. Deeply connected to his roots and his beliefs, he was a steadfast presence, guiding and nurturing his loved ones with unwavering support.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mattie, and their four children: Jaydon, and companion Miah of Protection, KS, Willow, Talon, and River, Pierceville, KS; his loving parents, Jed and Shawn Purdy of Garden City, KS; five brothers, Philip Purdy and his wife Kirsten of Colorado Springs, CO, David Purdy and his wife Elaine of Pleasant Hill, MO, Scott Purdy of Sterling, KS, Xander Purdy of Sterling, KS, and Shane Purdy of Garden City, KS.; three sisters, Abigail Banda and her husband Lorenzo of Pierceville, KS, Alexia Purdy, and Trinity Purdy, both of Garden City, KS. Additionally, Russell leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends whose lives he profoundly impacted.
Book signing will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. at Robson Funeral Home of Garden City, 620 N. Main Street.
A celebration of life service to honor Russell will be held at Word of Life Church located at 3004 N 3rd St, Garden City, KS 67846, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11 A.M., a private burial will be held later.
Russell James Purdy's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, a testament to a life well-lived through faith, family, and service to others.
