Virginia Lee (McGillvray) Roberts, born on September 27, 1922, in Rural Stanton County near Johnson, Kansas, peacefully passed away on March 21, 2024, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas.
She was the beloved wife of the late Marvin Roberts. She was the eldest of six siblings of George H and Ora G McGillivray.
She attended Ulysses Unified School District and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1940.
Virginia married Marvin when she was 19, and they had 59 years together. The family moved from a farm southeast of Ulysses to a cattle ranch northwest of Burwell, Nebraska. In 1970 they moved back to Ulysses to be with their parents in their reclining years. Virginia helped Marvin on a farm 9 miles east of Ulysses and served as a devoted Register of Deeds for Grant County during the 1980s.
She was a member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church of Ulysses, following in the footsteps of her parents.
She is survived by her four sons, Bob, Dick, Geo, and Jim, along with 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Marvin passed away in 1999, and she was preceded in death by her other siblings Barbara Lewis, George Harvey McGillivray, Mary McCoy, Edward McGillivray, and Georgia Blalock.
Virginia cherished her family and enjoyed cooking for them. Throughout her life, she found joy in bowling, playing bridge, golfing, and engaging in friendly gambling and bingo games. One of her greatest joys was playing cards with her family and especially her grandchildren. She maintained close relationships with her loved ones, always offering prayers and support. She loved Jesus, and her singing of “In the Garden” and other gospel songs will long reverberate throughout Pioneer Manor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pioneer Manor, of Hugoton, in the care of Robson Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
A service to celebrate Virginia's amazing life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses. Burial will follow the services at Golden Cemetery, Ulysses, Kansas.
Virginia will be remembered for her warm heart, love for her family, and the legacy of kindness she leaves.
