Wilbert Schmidt, 88, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Western Prairie Senior Living in Ulysses, Kansas.
He was the son of Bernhard and Lena (Wedel) Schmidt, born on February 20, 1935, in Grant County, Kansas.
Wilbert was married to Ardyce Ann Bartz on November 29, 1957, in Ordway, Colorado. Wilbert and Adyce were blessed to care for their niece, Leanna Schmidt Carlson, for her first two years of life, and later welcomed two sons, Virgil and Kyle.
Wilbert was a farmer for many years, worked for DeKalb Seed Plant of Ulysses for 16 years and retired from the City of Ulysses.
Wilbert was an active member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Ulysses. His hobbies were working with livestock, watching farm shows, Jeopardy, and playing dominoes.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ardyce Ann Schmidt, infant son, Lyle, five brothers, Albert, Dan, Harry, Carl, Elmer Schmidt, and sister, Verna Harms.
He is survived by two sons, Virgil Schmidt and wife Kylee, Ulysses, KS., Kyle Schmidt and wife Julie, Pasco, WA.; sister-in-law, Alice Schmidt, St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Freda Schmidt, Inman, Kansas; three grandchildren, Samantha Schmidt, Seth Schmidt and Brevin Schmidt, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established for New Beginnings Church in the care of Robson Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13, at 10:30 AM at New Beginnings Church, Ulysses, Kansas.
Viewing will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 3 PM to 6 PM at Robson Funeral Home, Ulysses, Kansas.
